Plot summary
Defense lawyer Craig Carlson is in love with Myra Leeds, the wife of Joe Leeds, his friend and comrade from the war. Craig asks Joe to let Myra divorce him so that the two of them can marry. Joe, who values the friendship, wants time to think it over. Some days later Joe writes a letter and leaves it with Lou Kazarian, his partner in business, asking him to put it in the mail. He then calls Myra to say he is on his way home to talk. At the house a gunshot is heard. Myra tells the police that Joe turned violent and threatened her, and that she fired to save herself. Craig, who arrived before the officers, takes on her defense when she is charged with murder.
