Plot summary
Alison Courtland, a wealthy New Yorker, comes to on a night train headed to Boston with no idea how she boarded it. Alison is a sleepwalker. She calls her husband, Richard, from the train, and the police listen in and hear her threaten him with a gun. On the flight home she meets Bruce Elcott, a fellow passenger who is drawn to her and knows a friend of hers. Richard then makes Alison agree to begin seeing a psychiatrist, Dr. Rhinehart, and the first appointment is set at her house. The man who arrives for it is a stranger, not Dr. Rhinehart.

- Mary Pickford produced the film with her husband Buddy Rogers and Ralph Cohn; it was her first film activity in 12 years, since The Gay Desperado (1936), and she was involved in approving the cast and script.
- Leo Rosten wrote the first screenplay from his magazine-serialized story, but The New Yorker writer St. Clair McKelway was recruited to contribute to the final version.
- Richard Ney was approached to head the cast in December 1946, but Don Ameche was signed as the star in April 1947 before Claudette Colbert and Robert Cummings were added.
