Gale Storm
Biography
Gale Storm was the professional name of an American singer and actress who moved from low-budget films to popular 1950s television. Born in Bloomington, Texas, she won a 1940 Gateway to Hollywood radio contest whose prize was a studio contract, and she took her stage name from that contest. After steady work at RKO Radio Pictures she became a leading player at Monogram Pictures, appearing in Swing Parade of 1946 (1946), It Happened on Fifth Avenue (1947), Stampede (1949), The Underworld Story (1950) and Between Midnight and Dawn (1950). From 1952 to 1955 she starred in My Little Margie, and from 1956 to 1960 in The Gale Storm Show alongside ZaSu Pitts. Six of her songs reached the top ten, and her version of I Hear You Knockin' hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1955. She also appeared in stage plays and published an autobiography in 1981.
