Plot summary
The war is over and Captain America has been lost in action, but Peggy Carter keeps working for the Strategic Scientific Reserve, a precursor to S.H.I.E.L.D. Her boss, Agent John Flynn, treats her condescendingly, leaving her to compile data and break code while the male agents take the field cases. The SSR has spent a long time trying to recover the Zodiac, a mysterious serum. One night, working late on her own, Carter picks up the case line and hears where the Zodiac can be found. The case would normally call for three to five agents, but she decides to go after it herself.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter (2013)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The mid-credits scene with Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan was planned to show the character in a pool, but had to be changed on set to take place beside the pool when it was found that the muscle suit McDonough wears could not get wet.
- D'Esposito wanted the music to reflect the period setting but have a modern feel, so he sent Lennertz Johnny Rivers' "Secret Agent Man" as a reference track, despite it having been released in the 1960s, because it had the feel he was looking for.
- Shane Black, director and co-writer of Iron Man 3, voices the "Disembodied Voice", the caller on the other end of the case line.
- D'Esposito noted that the short had twice the budget of Item 47 but the same amount of shooting time, so the scope was much bigger: a period setting, more actors and three fight scenes, which no previous One-Shot had attempted.
- The budget did not allow for a storyboard artist to be hired, so D'Esposito, Winderbaum and Beristain worked together to plan a shot list for the production using stand-in actors.
- As an easter egg, Stark is seen in the short wearing the same robe that his son Tony wears in Iron Man 2, a hidden link between the two generations.
