Plot summary
Mitch Albom is a sportswriter in Detroit. Rabbi Albert Lewis, his childhood rabbi, is 82 and asks Albom to give the eulogy at his funeral. Lewis has led a congregation in New Jersey for about fifty years. Albom travels to his former home town but feels he is not worthy of the request. He no longer practices Judaism, and his wife is Christian and not active in her faith. Lewis tells him that he is the right person for the task.
