My Life (1993) on Netflix

Plot summary

Bob Ivanovich grew up in Detroit in a Ukrainian family, changed his name to Jones and settled in Los Angeles, where he runs a public relations firm. He and his wife Gail are expecting a baby when doctors find terminal kidney cancer; the months he has may run out before the birth. He sets up a camera and records the lessons a father would give a child: cooking spaghetti, driving, shaving. He also visits Mr. Ho, a Chinese healer, who tells him to follow his heart. At Gail's urging the couple flies to Detroit for the wedding of his brother Paul, a traditional Ukrainian ceremony, and Bob tries to repair the rift with the family he left behind.
