Plot summary
Gabe's parents, Adam and Leslie, are heading toward divorce, and the ten-year-old rides his scooter around Manhattan while the concierge at his building takes note of his daily trips. Karate class pairs him for sparring with Rosemary, an eleven-year-old he has known since kindergarten, and his view of her changes. Rosemary lives with her parents at the edge of Central Park. Gabe shows her around the park, and on another day the two cross the city to Septuaguesimo Uno, the smallest park in Manhattan, while Gabe looks for an apartment for his father, who will be the one to move out.
