Miranda Richardson
Biography
Miranda Richardson is an English actress who has worked across theater, film and television in dramatic and comedic parts, winning two Golden Globes and a British Academy Film Award. Born in Southport, Lancashire, she trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She began acting in 1979, and her first West End appearance was in the 1981 play Moving. A Laurence Olivier Award nomination followed for A Lie of the Mind. Her film debut came in 1985 with Dance with a Stranger, playing Ruth Ellis. On television she portrayed a comic Queen Elizabeth I in Blackadder II. She won a Golden Globe for Enchanted April (1992) and another for the TV film Fatherland (1994). Her Academy Award nominations were for Damage (1992) and Tom & Viv (1994). Later films include Sleepy Hollow (1999), The Crying Game (1992), Empire of the Sun (1987), Chicken Run (2000), in which she voiced Mrs Tweedy, and The Hours (2002).

Early training
Before enrolling at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Richardson appeared in juvenile performances of Cinderella and Lord Arthur Savile's Crime at the Southport Dramatic Club. At the school she studied alongside Daniel Day-Lewis and Jenny Seagrove.
First role
In 1979 Richardson became an assistant stage manager at the Manchester Library Theatre. She later appeared in repertory theater, and her London stage debut came in 1981 in Moving at the Queen's Theatre.

In 1985, Richardson made her film debut in Dance with a Stranger, a biographical drama. She played Ruth Ellis, the last woman hanged in the United Kingdom.
