Plot summary
Tom Harvey, sixteen, lives in a gang-ridden part of London with his grandmother. Danny, his closest friend, hands him a new phone and urges him to make a move toward Lucy Walker, the neighbor he has long admired. Lucy asks him to help her prepare for exams, and he agrees. That night at her flat he finds her brother on the floor and masked men coming out of her room. Tom runs, tries to call the police, and is shot in the head. He wakes days later in a hospital. A doctor tells him that pieces of the phone are lodged in his head, and he starts to hear phone transmissions and see digital signals.
