Plot summary
Ritchie Carter's death in a car crash during a storm brings his brother Jack back from Las Vegas, where Jack works as a financial enforcer for a mob casino. Doreen, Jack's niece, and Eddie, Ritchie's friend and co-worker, both tell him Ritchie rarely drank and would not have driven drunk, and Jack questions whether the crash was an accident. He also talks with Geraldine, who is evasive about her relationship with Ritchie. At the wake, Jack keeps pressing mourners for answers, which angers Ritchie's widow, Gloria. Cliff Brumby, who owns the club Ritchie managed, tells Jack that Ritchie had been seeing Geraldine, who is connected to local boss Cyrus Paice.
