Plot summary
At Gartley's Blue Ribbon Laundry, an elderly worker named Mrs. Frawley spills antacids onto the tread of a folding machine and is pulled inside and crushed. Officer John Hunton investigates the accident and meets the laundry's owner, Bill Gartley. Hunton's brother-in-law Mark Jackson, a demonologist, argues that the press itself is possessed and that an exorcism is the only way to stop it. Gartley's niece Sherry had earlier cut her hand on a lever attached to the machine and splashed blood onto its tread as movers carried an old ice box past, and sparks and light streamed from the press.
