Plot summary
Horror conventions around the world fill with admirers of the A Nightmare on Elm Street films, and the actress who played Nancy Thompson goes to them to put a question to the fans: why does Freddy Krueger command so much more of their attention than Nancy does? She also talks with the man who played Freddy Krueger and with the director of the first A Nightmare on Elm Street film, asking what qualities make Nancy a definitive screen hero. The project began after a receptionist refused to put her through to the director she was trying to reach. It was first planned to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the first film, then held back by her work on another documentary, and the making of it took two years.

- Heather Langenkamp was inspired to make I Am Nancy after a receptionist blocked her attempt to reach director Wes Craven. Planned to tie in with the 25th anniversary of A Nightmare on Elm Street, it was delayed by her work on Never Sleep Again and took two years to make.
