Plot summary
Brett, a former LAPD officer, retires to Bulgaria after killing a teenager in self-defense, and there he marries Ana. Her suicide leaves him depressed, and his friend Alex urges him to take a security post in Sofia; dreams of Ana leave Brett unable to move forward, so he agrees. The building is a historic one that locals know well. Its manager Martin hires Brett for a single duty, watching CCTV footage from a locked warehouse. Martin tells him that no activity has ever been reported there, and that he should summon help at once if he sees any. The work stays calm apart from odd noises, and Brett's nightmares sometimes seem more real than his days. He also meets Zara, a café worker surprised that the building needs a guard at all.

- Robert Englund took the role of Jacob partly because he and Jason London shared the same agent but had never worked together before, which intrigued him.
- Director Patricio Valladares joined Nightworld before it was funded, when producer Loris Curci asked him to contribute a poster.
- Producer Loris Curci suggested shooting Nightworld in the style of an old Italian horror film; Valladares described the result as "Sinister (2012) meets The Ninth Gate (1999)".
