Plot summary
Jonathan Chambers, a serial killer, is put to death in the electric chair, and Sheriff Berger, who arrested him, escorts the body to a hospital so that Doctor Hitchens can perform an autopsy. On the road the sheriff's car strikes Sara Wexler, a lonely teenager who has run in front of it on purpose, and she is carried to the same hospital in the same ambulance. There she sees the corpse return to life. In a room she meets Walter Brooks, a schoolmate who was hurt by his own rake, and asks him to help her get out. He doubts her account until blood appears in the corridor, and then the two find every exit locked.
