Plot summary
A young woman travels to Cairo to visit her father. While she is there, she is drawn against her will into a sadomasochistic cult headed by the charismatic Paul Chevalier, who is descended from the Marquis de Sade. The marquis himself appears in flashbacks. The story was first planned as a period piece to be shot in Egypt; production moved to Tel Aviv and the setting became the present day.

- Robert Englund said he wasn't too thrilled when Night Terrors moved from Egypt to Tel Aviv and was changed from a period film into a contemporary story, and with the original director quitting the project, the producers hired one of his favorite directors, Tobe Hooper, to keep him happy.
