Biography

Rhys Ifans is a Welsh actor who grew up in Ruthin and began presenting Welsh-language programs on S4C before studying at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He drew notice as Jeremy Lewis in Twin Town (1997) and became widely known as the slovenly housemate Spike in Notting Hill (1999). Other film roles include Vladis Grutas in Hannibal Rising (2007), Xenophillius Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010), Dr. Curt Connors / Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), and Grigori Rasputin in The King's Man (2021). On television he won a BAFTA Best Actor award in 2005 for playing Peter Cook in Not Only But Always, and he played Hector DeJean in Berlin Station and Otto Hightower in House of the Dragon. He has also appeared on stage at the National Theatre and The Old Vic, and briefly fronted Super Furry Animals.
