Plot summary
Sally Alexander is accepted into a history course at University College London. There she meets Jo Robinson, a feminist activist, at a conference on women's rights, and helps her get away after she defaces a sexist billboard. Jo brings her into a women's group that is preparing a protest at the 1970 Miss World contest in London, and Sally works on its messaging and media. The event is presented by Bob Hope. Contestants arrive, among them Pearl Jansen, entered as Miss Africa South, and Jennifer Hosten, Miss Grenada, who become friends. Jennifer also befriends Marjorie Johansson, Miss Sweden, the favorite.
