Biography

Gemma Arterton is an English actress who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and took her first professional role in Capturing Mary while still a student, then made her stage debut at Shakespeare's Globe in 2007 and her film debut that year in St Trinian's. She became widely known as the Bond Girl Strawberry Fields in Quantum of Solace (2008), winning an Empire Award for Best Newcomer, and in 2021 she played the secret agent Polly Wilkins in The King's Man. Her other screen roles include the lead in Tamara Drewe (2010) and a teacher in The Girl with All the Gifts. She produced and starred in The Escape (2017), was named a Harper's Bazaar Woman of the Year, and has run Rebel Park Productions since 2016. On stage, she received Olivier nominations for Made in Dagenham and Nell Gwynn, winning an Evening Standard Theatre Award for the first.

    In a 2015 interview, Arterton said Jonathan Glazer picked her to star in his movie Under the Skin. He had to recast, though, since her fame was not enough to get the film financed.
