Plot summary
In 2092, humanity has conquered death, and 118-year-old Nemo Nobody is the last mortal left. Dr. Feldheim uses hypnosis to help him remember his life, and a journalist interviews him. Nemo's account keeps shifting, and he says the Angels of Oblivion, who wipe a child's knowledge at conception, passed him by. He describes his life at nine, fifteen and thirty-four, and tells it as paths that split apart at each decision. When his parents divorce, the nine-year-old Nemo must choose between his mother in Montreal and his father in England, and he recounts both. The paths bring him to Anna, to Elise and to Jean.

- Director Jaco Van Dormael publicly encouraged audiences to pirate the film in open defiance of the studios, later telling the Cineteca di Bologna that piracy had succeeded where the industry failed.
- Even though pirated copies were circulating in parts of Asia for as little as one yen, Mr. Nobody still became the most-streamed title in Japan during its first week of digital release.
- Wild Bunch saw the cut it was shown as failing to meet expectations and withdrew Mr. Nobody from the Biennale, a move unprecedented in the festival's history.
- Mr. Nobody was made on a production budget of €33 million (US$47 million), which made it the most expensive Belgian film ever made.
- All five hundred visual-effects shots for the film were produced in Quebec; the company Modus FX alone delivered 121 of them using 37 digital artists and technicians over six months.
- The film marked the final collaboration with composer Pierre Van Dormael, the director's brother, who died shortly after completing the score.
