Plot summary
Isabel Green is trying to keep the family farm running while her husband Rory is away fighting in the Second World War. She also works in the village shop and looks after three children, Norman, Megsie and Vincent. When the wealthy city cousins Cyril and Celia Gray are evacuated to the countryside, the house grows more crowded and the quarrels among the children grow louder. Isabel's brother-in-law Phil has his own plans for the farm, which the family depends on. Into this arrives Nanny McPhee, who brings her magic and five lessons for the children, though they refuse to listen at first.

- Dunsfold Aerodrome, the airfield used as a filming location for the television programme Top Gear, was one of the places the film was shot, with more filming taking place at Shepperton Studios.
