Plot summary
Hair covers Lila Jute's body, and the condition sends her away from people to live naked in the woods, where she writes a book about the life she has found. At thirty, wanting a partner, she returns to the city and has the hair removed. She takes up with Dr. Nathan Bronfman, a psychologist who is trying to teach table manners to mice. Hiking with him, she spots a naked man who behaves like an ape; she strips and chases him until he falls from a branch and is knocked out. The unconscious man is carried to Nathan's lab and given the name Puff. Nathan sets out to train him in civilized ways, while Lila argues for leaving his wild habits alone.
