Biography

Michelle Monaghan is an American actress who moved from modeling into screen work. Raised in Winthrop, Iowa, she attended Columbia College Chicago for journalism before heading to New York to act. Early credits included episodes of Young Americans and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and she made her film debut in Perfume (2001), followed by Unfaithful (2002). A breakout role on Boston Public led to features such as Source Code (2011), Gone Baby Gone (2007), Trucker (2008), Pixels (2015), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), Made of Honor (2008), Eagle Eye (2008) and Patriots Day (2016). She also appeared in the Mission: Impossible spy series, among them Mission: Impossible III (2006) and Fallout (2018). Her television work includes True Detective (2014), which brought a Golden Globe nomination, plus The Path, Echoes and The White Lotus.

    Monaghan left Columbia College Chicago one semester short of her journalism degree in 1999 and moved to New York to pursue acting, after having modeled in Milan, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

  2. Big break

    In 2002 Monaghan landed a big-break role as Kimberly Woods on the television series Boston Public. She guest-starred for a season, then went back to film with It Runs in the Family in 2003.

  3. A role that slipped away

    Monaghan appears in the 2005 film Constantine, but her role was essentially cut, and her scenes can be seen on the DVD under "deleted scenes".
