Plot summary
Maxine Minx performs in adult films in 1985 Los Angeles and wants a career in mainstream movies. She auditions for the lead in the horror film The Puritan II and wins the part, though all of her credits so far are in adult films. She shares the news with her friend Leon and her colleague Amber James, who invites her to a party in the Hollywood Hills. Maxine declines, keeps her second job at a live peep show, and meets another entertainer, Tabby Martin, who repeats the invitation. A private investigator, John Labat, tells her that her earlier crimes will be exposed unless she appears at an address on Starlight Drive. Maxine ignores the demand.

- Mia Goth was sued by James Hunter, a background actor who played a corpse on set, for allegedly kicking him in the head and then taunting him about it. The suit also included a wrongful termination claim against A24 and director Ti West.
- Ti West wrote an ending for MaXXXine with a supernatural haunting element tied to the character Pearl, but he removed it, saying it "just felt like going backward".
- MaXXXine was the final A24 film released on physical media by Lionsgate; the home video partnership quietly ended afterwards, leading A24 to switch to in-house production for its later discs.
