Biography

Mark Wahlberg is an American actor and producer who first found fame as a rapper with the group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch before turning to the screen. Born in Boston, he made his film debut in Renaissance Man (1994), took his first starring part in Fear (1996), and received critical praise for Boogie Nights (1997). In the early 2000s he moved into big-budget action with The Perfect Storm (2000), Planet of the Apes (2001) and The Italian Job (2003), then earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor as a police officer in The Departed (2006). He was nominated for a Golden Globe for playing Micky Ward in The Fighter (2010), which also brought him a Best Picture nomination as co-producer. Comedy hits followed, among them The Other Guys (2010), Ted (2012) and Daddy's Home (2015), plus the Transformers films, and he executive produced series including Entourage, Boardwalk Empire and Ballers.
