Danny McBride
Biography
Born in Statesboro, Georgia, Danny McBride is an American actor, screenwriter, comedian, director and producer. He made his film debut in a supporting role in All the Real Girls (2003) and took his first starring role in The Foot Fist Way (2006), which he co-wrote. He gained mainstream recognition with Pineapple Express (2008), Hot Rod (2007) and Tropic Thunder (2008). His breakout came as Kenny Powers on the HBO series Eastbound & Down from 2009 to 2013. He later co-created and starred in Vice Principals from 2016 to 2017 and The Righteous Gemstones from 2019 to 2025. His films include Your Highness (2011), This Is the End (2013) and Alien: Covenant (2017), with voice roles in Despicable Me (2010) and Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011). He wrote for the Halloween trilogy from 2018 to 2022 and co-wrote The Exorcist: Believer (2023). He has earned a Primetime Emmy nomination and four Satellite Award nominations.

First role
McBride was a second unit director on David Gordon Green's feature debut George Washington before he ever acted on screen, making his acting debut two years later in Green's All the Real Girls.
A first
In March 2009, the Pensacola Pelicans, a team in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball, offered McBride a chance to play semi-professional baseball because of his role as Powers.
Early training
McBride attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he and director Jody Hill became known as the "Three Flavas" along with Kris Baucom.
Behind the camera
In late 2018, HBO ordered The Righteous Gemstones straight to series. The show came from McBride and his Rough House Pictures label.
