Plot summary
After the battle that leveled Chicago, humans regard Transformers as hostile, and a covert CIA unit called Cemetery Wind, run by Harold Attinger, hunts them down. The Cybertronian bounty hunter Lockdown serves the Creators, who want Optimus Prime returned to them, and he offers Attinger's unit a device called a Seed in return for the capture. Damaged and in hiding, Optimus sits as an old semi truck in Texas until a struggling inventor, Cade Yeager, buys it and starts fixing it up. Cade's daughter Tessa and his partner Lucas Flannery would rather turn the truck in for a reward; Cade refuses. When someone reports the purchase, James Savoy and his men surround the Yeager farm, and Optimus shows himself to give the family time.

- In Hong Kong, while making the film, director Michael Bay was attacked by two brothers named Mak, who asked for HK$100,000. The brothers admitted the charges and went to jail, and the prosecutor said the case hurt Hong Kong's image.
- The Blu-ray release of Transformers: Age of Extinction was the first to have a Dolby Atmos home theater soundtrack encoded with Dolby TrueHD.
- It is the first Transformers film for which Linkin Park did not contribute an original song, though their single "Until It's Gone" appears in the tie-in video game's soundtrack.
- Steve Jablonsky said the score was pulled from iTunes and other digital stores after hitting a 15,000-unit limit, before re-use fees would have to be paid; he hoped to re-release it and the Dark of the Moon score.

- Paramount's announced $100 million North American opening was questioned: Rentrak data from about 4,100 of the 4,233 theaters showed $95.9 million, projecting a three-day total near $97.5 million, and some outlets used the Rentrak figure.
