Plot summary
In 2015, Michael Light's choice to kayak against the tide stranded his team on the first day of the Adventure Racing World Series, and teammate Leo was outraged. Three years later, Michael lives in Colorado Springs, works in his father Charlie's realty business and wants one more race. His wife Helen, once on that team, urges him to try again. He recruits Olivia, a climber, and Chik, an older racer whose knee injury left his recovery uncertain. Sponsor Broadrail covers only half of what he asks and imposes Leo, now a social media celebrity, as the fourth member. The team has four days in the Dominican Republic to train for a route of more than 400 miles through mountainous jungle. At the first transition camp, Michael feeds meatballs to a stray dog.
