Plot summary
A night of heavy drinking leaves Tom, a Hollywood film director, hungover, so he drives out of Los Angeles into the desert in his jeep while his girlfriend sleeps at home. In the Mojave he meets John "Jack" Jackson, a drifter carrying a knife concealed in his coat. Jack arrives at Tom's camp at night, and Tom, expecting trouble, takes his rifle and ammunition and sends him away. Jack draws the knife, and Tom fights him off with a small retractable knife of his own. He spends the night alone in a cave. The next day Tom is stranded in the desert, unable to recover his overturned jeep.
