Plot summary
In Brooklyn in 1988, Bobby Green runs the El Caribe nightclub in Brighton Beach for its owner, the fur importer Marat Buzhayev, whose nephew Vadim Nezhinski drinks there. Bobby is estranged from his father Burt, an NYPD deputy chief, and from his brother Joseph, a newly made captain. He goes by his late mother's maiden name at work and spends his nights with his girlfriend Amada Juarez and his best friend Jumbo Falsetti, the club's assistant manager. Bobby intends to open a club of his own in Manhattan. Joseph, who now leads a new anti-drug squad, tells him that the police will raid the club and that Vadim is the man they want.
