Plot summary
Professional safecracker John Bridger's crew plans one last heist in Venice: $35 million in gold bars, held in a safe, gold that Italian gangsters had taken weeks earlier. Charlie Croker, a professional fixer, leads the group. Lyle works the computers, Handsome Rob drives, Left Ear handles explosives and Steve is the inside man. John's daughter Stella is a private safecracker who opens safes with tools and technology rather than by feel.

- According to co-star Seth Green, Norton took the role of Steve Frazelli under duress, due to a contractual obligation he had to fulfill to Paramount; he behaved professionally but was furious about being forced to make the film, saying "My real fans should give this a miss."
- Three of the 32 custom-built Mini Coopers used during principal photography were fitted with electric motors, since combustion engines were not allowed in the subway tunnels where some scenes were shot.
