Plot summary
Nathan Drake and his brother Sam are orphaned boys in Boston, caught trying to take a map charted after the Magellan voyage from a museum. Sam runs off before the orphanage can expel him, promising to return, and leaves Nate a ring said to have belonged to their ancestor Sir Francis Drake. Fifteen years on, Nate pours drinks in New York and lifts wallets from rich customers. Victor Sullivan, a fortune hunter who once hunted Magellan treasure with Sam, finds him and says Sam disappeared after assisting in the theft of Juan Sebastián Elcano's diary. Nate agrees to help search for him. At an auction the two go after a golden cross connected to Magellan's crew, and meet Santiago Moncada, whose family paid for the voyage, and Jo Braddock, who leads his mercenaries.
