Plot summary
Neither Bobby Trench nor Stig Stigman knows what the other really is: Bobby is an agent of the DEA working undercover, Stig one of naval intelligence. The drug lord Manny "Papi" Greco receives them at his farm in Mexico and sends them away with a packet of cash rather than the cocaine they came to collect. Once they are back in the United States, Bobby tells his superior, Jessup, and a fellow agent, Deb Rees, that he has nothing for the case. In private he tells Rees, who is also his mistress, of a plan to rob Greco's bank in Tres Cruces, Texas alongside Stig, expecting some three million dollars, enough to charge Greco with tax evasion. Stig's orders come from Lieutenant Commander Harold Quince.
