Plot summary
On Christmas Day in 1985, eight-year-old John Bennett, an only child with no friends, asks that the jumbo teddy bear he was given come alive and be his friend. A shooting star coincides with the wish, and Ted becomes briefly famous. Twenty-seven years on, John and Ted live in Boston with Lori Collins, his girlfriend of four years, and the pair party together. Lori hopes to marry John but believes his friendship with Ted is what keeps him immature and stuck in a job with no future at Liberty Car Rental. Her wealthy boss Rex tries to make John look bad in her eyes. Donny and his son Robert, fans of Ted, want the bear for themselves.
