Ellen Barkin
Biography
Ellen Barkin is an American actress who trained at the High School of Performing Arts, Hunter College and the Actors Studio, then broke through in Barry Levinson's Diner (1982). Starring roles followed in Tender Mercies (1983), Eddie and the Cruisers (1983), The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984), The Big Easy (1986), Johnny Handsome and Sea of Love (1989). Her lead in Switch (1991) earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress, and she won a Primetime Emmy in 1998 for the television film Before Women Had Wings. Her Broadway debut, in The Normal Heart, brought her the 2011 Tony Award for a featured performance in a play. She later led the series The New Normal and Animal Kingdom, and her producing credits include Another Happy Day (2011).
