Plot summary
The talk show where Jane Goodale works has just gone national, and its host, Diane Roberts, keeps pushing the staff to book guests no one can get. Jane clashes with Eddie Alden, a fellow producer who moves through women without apology. Ray Brown joins as a producer, and Jane is drawn to him though he has a girlfriend, Dee, and the two begin an affair. Ray says he loves her and wants to share a home. He ends things with Dee, and he and Jane look at apartments. Then Ray pulls away and breaks things off, and since her old apartment is already re-rented, she takes a room in Eddie's place. A magazine article about cattle mating gives Jane a theory about men, and Liz, her friend at a men's magazine, suggests she write it up anonymously.
