Plot summary
Gil Renard works as a knife salesman and is a devoted San Francisco Giants fan. His temper costs him his job after he insults a customer, and his ex-wife Ellen seeks a restraining order over his neglect of their son Richie. The Giants have given center-fielder Bobby Rayburn a $40 million contract, and Gil is delighted. When a chest injury sends Rayburn into the worst slump of his career, Gil turns on the fans who jeer him. Rayburn is also at odds with teammate Juan Primo, who holds the number 11 shirt and refuses to give it up. Gil blames Primo for the slump and wants the number back for Rayburn.
