Don Brodie
Biography
Don Brodie was an American actor who worked in film and television and began on stage in the early 1920s. He spent nine years with the Civic Repertory Theater in Cincinnati before signing a contract with Universal Pictures in 1931. Universal first promoted him as a comedian under the nickname Steve Brodie, then dropped that plan before his debut in the two-reeler Out Stepping. Through the 1930s he took many small and utility parts, and in 1938 he had the largest screen role of his career in the Universal Crime Club entry The Last Express. He provided voices for the Disney features Pinocchio (1940) and Dumbo and played a car lot owner in the film noir Detour (1945). He also worked as a dialogue director, directed A Fig Leaf for Eve in 1944 and a 1957 pilot for a proposed series, and made his final film appearance in Goodnight, Sweet Marilyn (1989).

Big break
In 1938, with much attention from the press, Brodie won the most substantial part of his screen career, a featured role in The Last Express, the fifth movie in Universal's Crime Club series. He had been uncredited in the four earlier ones.
Behind the camera
Brodie earned his only screen directing credit in 1944 with A Fig Leaf for Eve, and in 1957 he directed the pilot for a proposed series, Tricks for Living, that apparently never aired.
