Plot summary
Nick Ross, a murderer under sentence of death, has never confessed. Shortly before his execution he tells the room that he will name the person who hired him for the crime. Before he can do it, a poison dart strikes him dead in front of the officials and reporters assembled for the execution. Roger Phillips, an assistant district attorney, takes charge of the room and makes the witnesses sit again where they had been. Geri Reynolds, a newspaper reporter, is drawn into the hunt for whoever arranged the killing. Ross's girlfriend, Verne Drake, says he made a telephone call from her apartment and she remembers part of the number.
