Plot summary
Josh Mallon and Ace Lannigan are friends who crew the same ship. On its return to the United States after a long voyage, they watch other sailors being mistreated by wives and girlfriends and vow to stay clear of women. The vow is tested at once: the family of Ace's former lover Cherry demands that he marry her, while Josh, the son of a shipping magnate, dodges his fiancée Gloria and his father's wish that he run the family business. After a fistfight at a party for Josh's engagement and photographs that create a scandal, the pair flee to Hawaii and head for Singapore. Their money runs out on the island of Kaigoon, where they rescue Mima from her abusive dance partner, Caesar, and she comes to live in their hut.
