Ian Wolfe
Biography
Ian Wolfe was an American character actor whose screen and television career spanned seven decades and roughly 400 credits. Born in Canton, Illinois, he trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and worked in the theater until 1934. His stage debut came in The Claw in 1919, and he later appeared on Broadway in plays such as The Barretts of Wimpole Street and Lysistrata. His first screen role came in The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1934). Because his stage experience gave him precise diction, he was often cast as Englishmen. His many films included Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), Foreign Correspondent (1940), Saboteur (1942), Julius Caesar (1953), Rebel Without a Cause (1955), and THX 1138 (1971). He played Carter in Witness for the Prosecution (1957) and appeared in several Sherlock Holmes films, including Dressed to Kill (1946). On television he was seen in Star Trek, WKRP in Cincinnati, and Wizards and Warriors. His last screen credit came in 1990.
