Plot summary
Tired of his routine at a Los Angeles brokerage, Nicholas Lawrence walks away with cash and securities worth about a million dollars and buys a ticket to Shanghai by way of Honolulu. Cynthia Strong leaves her husband's funeral service and goes straight to the airport for a ticket of her own. Mid-flight, a man named Alan Marker approaches her and accuses her of murdering her husband, offering to keep quiet for half the life insurance payout. She has until an hour after landing in Honolulu to decide. Cynthia appeals to Nicholas, seated nearby, and he pretends to be an acquaintance when Marker returns. In Honolulu the two of them are booked into the same hotel as Marker.
