Byron Foulger
Biography
Byron Foulger was an American character actor whose career spanned roughly fifty years of stage, film, and television work. Born in Ogden, Utah, he began acting through community theater at the University of Utah. He made his Broadway debut in 1920 in Medea with Moroni Olsen, stayed for four more Olsen productions, and toured with Olsen's stock company. In the early 1930s he directed at the Portland Civic Theater and worked at the Pasadena Playhouse as an actor and director. He entered films in 1932 in bit parts, and after a 1937 NBC Radio performance opposite Mae West in an Adam and Eve sketch he found steady screen work. Known for mild-mannered, timid characters, he appeared in The President's Mystery (1936), The Man They Could Not Hang (1939), and five films written by Preston Sturges, including Sullivan's Travels (1941). From 1950 he made more than 90 television appearances, among them Twilight Zone and Gunsmoke. He died in 1970.

First role
Foulger first appeared on Broadway in a March 1920 production of Medea that featured Moroni Olsen. He went on to perform with Olsen in four more back-to-back productions, ending in April 1922.
Big break
Foulger's film career began in earnest in 1937, after he acted with Mae West in a risqué 'Adam and Eve' sketch on NBC Radio's The Chase and Sanborn Hour in December of that year.

In the early 1930s Foulger directed for the Portland Civic Theater in Portland, Oregon. He later took on acting, assistant directing and directing roles at the Pasadena Playhouse.
Getting ready for a role
In The Falcon Strikes Back, Foulger's hotel clerk announced a homicide by bellowing "Mur-der! Mur-der!" across the lobby, one of the bits of business he added to scripted lines.
