Biography

Kelly Macdonald is a Scottish actress who got her first film work after an open casting audition she attended while earning a living in a Glasgow pub, winning the part of Diane in Danny Boyle's Trainspotting (1996). She played an actress who portrays Peter Pan in Finding Neverland, took major parts in Robert Altman's Gosford Park, as an aristocrat's maid, and in Intermission, and took a supporting part in the Coen brothers' No Country for Old Men (2007), which brought her a BAFTA nomination as best supporting actress. Her other credits include Elizabeth, Nanny McPhee, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Anna Karenina, T2 Trainspotting and Operation Mincemeat, and she voiced the heroine Merida in the Disney Pixar film Brave (2012). On television she won a Primetime Emmy for the BBC film The Girl in the Cafe, was nominated again as Margaret Thompson in Boardwalk Empire, and appeared in State of Play and Line of Duty.
