Plot summary
Frank Bonneville talks his way into a murder scene by pretending to be a police officer, then goes live on the radio with what he learned before he is escorted out. His boss Geoffrey Mallard warns him against breaking the law again. Ian Finch, the station's sound technician, leaves the company ball early for a stake-out with Claire Maddox; his wife Eleanor stays behind and meets Frank, who sleeps with her without knowing whose wife she is. Mallard then sends Frank and Finch to Ecuador to cover an uprising. Finch first refuses in order to work on his marriage, then agrees. At the airport the two discover their passports and tickets are gone, so they take shelter in a café run by Brigida and Domingo opposite the station and invent their reports from a back room.
