Biography

Stephen Fry is an English performer, comic, author and broadcaster whose early screen work came on the sketch show Alfresco and the sitcom Blackadder. With Hugh Laurie he formed a comedy partnership. Their joint shows included Jeeves and Wooster and A Bit of Fry & Laurie. He hosted the quiz program QI from 2003 to 2016, earning six BAFTA TV Award nominations, and presented the BAFTA Film Awards twelve times between 2001 and 2017. His films include V for Vendetta (2005), Gosford Park (2001), The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004), A Fish Called Wanda (1988) and Love & Friendship (2016). He voiced the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland (2010) and returned for its 2016 sequel. His Oscar Wilde role in Wilde (1997) brought a Golden Globe nomination. On stage he adapted Me and My Girl and played Malvolio in Twelfth Night, earning Tony nominations for both. He has written novels and narrated all seven Harry Potter audiobooks.

    For the 1980 Edinburgh Festival, Fry wrote a play called Latin! or Tobacco and Boys, and it took the Fringe First prize there.

    In 1984, Fry adapted Me and My Girl, a 1930s musical, for the West End. It ran there for eight years, won two Laurence Olivier Awards, and later moved to Broadway, where Fry was nominated for a Tony Award.
