Kevin McKidd
Biography
Kevin McKidd is a Scottish actor and television director who played Tommy Mackenzie in Danny Boyle's Trainspotting (1996). Born in Elgin, he studied drama at Queen Margaret University. After Trainspotting he was cast in a 1996 Christmas episode of Father Ted and appeared in Small Faces. He was part of the ensemble of Mike Leigh's Topsy-Turvy (1999), singing his own Gilbert and Sullivan numbers. His film work includes Nicholas Nickleby (2002), Dog Soldiers (2002), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Hannibal Rising (2007), and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010). On television he starred in Looking After Jo Jo, Rome as Lucius Vorenus, and Journeyman, and his Rome role led to Grey's Anatomy, where he plays Dr. Owen Hunt and made his directing debut. He won a Prism Award for his Grey's Anatomy work and voiced characters in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Brave (2012).

Big break
McKidd's part in Rome brought about his casting as Dr. Owen Hunt in Grey's Anatomy. He directed for the first time in the series's seventh season, on the episode "Don't Deceive Me (Please Don't Go)".
Beyond film
McKidd started The Speyside Sessions, a Scottish folk music album. It was recorded at Hogmanay in Elgin, his home town, and many of the contributors were old school friends of his. It came out on 15 June 2012 for Save the Children.
Early training
Before drama school, McKidd planned to study engineering at the University of Edinburgh, then auditioned at Queen Margaret University and was accepted to study Drama.
