Biography

The Scottish actor Ewen Bremner, born in Edinburgh, got his opening in screen acting from the television director Richard D. Brooks. Early screen work included a schoolboy from Glasgow in Charles Gormley's Heavenly Pursuits (1986) and the lead in a BBC Scotland adaptation of a William McIlvanney story, Dreaming (1990). He played Spud in Danny Boyle's Trainspotting (1996), and he had earlier taken the part of Mark Renton in the 1994 stage version of the same material. He returned to Spud for T2 Trainspotting (2017), earning warm reviews from critics and the BAFTA Scotland prize for Best Actor. His other films include Snatch (2000), Black Hawk Down (2001), Pearl Harbor (2001), Alien vs. Predator (2004), Death at a Funeral (2007) and Great Expectations (2012), and he was a World War I marksman in Wonder Woman (2017). He also produced the short No Song to Sing.
