Plot summary
Agnes is a suburban homemaker outside New York, serving her husband Louie and their grown sons Ziggy and Gabe without complaint. After her own birthday party, which she bakes and cleans up for herself, she takes an interest in a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle from the gifts. She travels into New York City for harder puzzles and finds an advertisement that leads her to Robert, a wealthy, reclusive inventor and former tournament champion. His wife, once his puzzle partner, has left him, and he wants someone to compete with at a championship the next month. Surprised by how Agnes solves, he asks her to practice twice a week, and she tells her family she is helping an aunt with a broken leg.
