Plot summary
Stephen Lewis writes successful children's books. While shopping with his four-year-old daughter Kate, he loses sight of her in a supermarket, and the search that follows does not find her. The strain of the loss pulls his marriage to Julie apart; she goes to live in a seaside village, and Stephen visits her there. He carries on writing while the two of them grieve separately.
