Holt McCallany
Biography
Holt McCallany is an American actor who was born in New York City and began his career in the theater. His first professional job was an apprenticeship at the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival, and he later understudied in the Broadway production of Biloxi Blues. He went on to supporting parts in films such as Alien 3 (1992), Creepshow 2 (1987), and Jade (1995), and the miniseries Rough Riders. He played boxing trainer Teddy Atlas in the HBO telefilm Tyson. He appeared in Fight Club (1999), Three Kings (1999), Men of Honor (2000), and Below (2002). On television, he starred in Lights Out (2011) as an aging boxer and co-starred from 2017 to 2019 in Mindhunter as FBI agent Bill Tench. He also appeared in The Losers (2010), Sully (2016), Shot Caller (2017), Blackhat (2015), Wrath of Man (2021), Nightmare Alley (2021), and The Iron Claw (2023).

After finishing high school, McCallany continued his education in France. He studied art at the Paris American Academy and French at the Sorbonne, then theater at L'École Marcel Marceau and L'École Jacques Lecoq.

McCallany studied Shakespeare for a summer at Oxford University, then traveled with a Twelfth Night production to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, all before he moved to New York City to start acting professionally.
